triple denim

I've never imagined myself to be in a triple denim ensemble, ever. But I guess I did, twice last week. Picked up what used to be my favourite denim jacket I've had lying around for like 4 years but never got to and paired it with my cut-offs and this shirt thats been obviously worn to death. Surpingly the perfect contrast for the backdrop.

The jacket's by Warehouse, a gift I clearly remember being given to me by my aunt when I passed math for the first in a really long time. So happy I think I cried because it was pretty expensive then, way beyond my pocket money. It turned out to look perfect with my shorts, the shade of denim just matched evenly, pretty awesome. On a side note, my dad's been a great sport in taking these photos for me. He's been doing a pretty fantastic job in almost half of the photos posted here revently. All of this…..in auto mode, which makes me feel like I've a pretty whacked up but awesome camera and am quite a good teacher. He is obviously too impatient to learn the technical stuff so I'm really, more than grateful. More photos today because he's been such a sweetie and took about 200 of these. Wearing Warehouse denim jacket, Topshop shorts and boots, Mango shades and denim shirt from Shopmissingavenue (its getting a revamp so everything will be up and running real soon!). Hope you like.

Frolicked around these green pastures in one of my new favourite dresses. I was inspired by everything Lula and this seemed to be the perfect combination, the bell sleeves make this babydoll a lot more than I could ask for and I'm so glad I stocked up this baby in black as well. Its perfect tucked into some cut-offs or my John Lennon pants and paired with boots . So 1970s. I love it so much I think I'll bring in a couple of pieces to share with you guys as well!

There are many great things to love about a satchel- they're practical and probably the most classic school bag of all time but I think what I love the most about it is the fact that its so traditionally British! There is nothing more British than a satchel and anyone who knows me will know that I love anything British. Think Harry Potter at Hogwarts. I am not particularly crazy on satchels as my everyday bag to be very honest but I've definitely had my moments, and I did end up buying a classic brown Cambridge satchel sometime last year. Just because I liked the idea of getting something so traditional in its original colour. Over the past week, I headed straight for change and played around with some crazy pieces from Doorstepluxury who has been so exceptionally kind to let me do so. I picked out key pieces which I felt would gravitate more towards my style with a few added touches for something different. Wish I could have taken a green as well though! But maybe soon. Photographed over a week by Sherman and my dad (who is officially hired!), I had a blast playing with these bags and I'm almost convinced I need that red little mini right now. Thank you to Nicolle from Doorstepluxury for making all of this happen. Hope you enjoy this as much as I did! Have a great weekend!

Help me if you please

This year I want to start wearing more details rather than always gravitating towards basic, basic looks. You get what I mean right? Nothing wrong with basics but I love it when details seem the most oblivious to others because they're like "but you're only wearing this.." and then its my turn to shout in defense and justify the whole thing. You get the dirft. I guess I'm pretty boring by nature and even talking about clothes can bore my friends because I suck at descriptions so I'm sorry if you're not getting mine. That aside, Runway Bandits sent me this army jacket last week and I couldn't wait to wear it out the moment I got my hands on it. The versatility of an army jacket is endless. I've about 101 ways of wearing this in my head, its also just nice that I've another waiting for me to rip open and prance around in. Can't wait to share my 50/50. You wouldn't believe if I told you I grew up in tons of army gear. I wasn't a cool kid but my dad spent half his life in the army and he was obsessed with camouflage prints he would deck me in head to toe camou. I hated it but maybe…it was for the best. I got special treatment whenever I attended those open houses for a glimpse into army life and got to shoot real guns when before I was barely 12. Hah! Maybe I was pretty cool afterall.
My little duffle has been my best friend over the weekend, wish I could find more of these, I love them so much. They're perfect to dump everything in and you'd be surprised how much a tiny one like this can fit. Thank you Swee, for the jacket! Its perfect. Wearing it with a $10 skirt I got randomly, TheScarletRoom bustier, Dolce Vita boots and Forever 21 bag.

*Ps The jacket will be available in the store next week!

I've been playing with Cambridge satchels all week, thanks to the lovely people behind Doorstepluxury. This red little mini has been a definite favourite since I visited the showroom last week, I've never seen so many satchels in one place! I have a massive post coming up where I'd be featuring whats possible the world's most practical bag with pieces from my wardrobe. Couldn't wait to share so I thought I'd give a sneak peek!

Granny's Day Out

IMG_3761
IMG_3757
I played with a couple of pieces from local vintage store, Granny's Day Out, yesterday- mainly this gorgeous skirt I wore as a dress and these awesome leather feather boots (1st time!!). I guess the great thing about vintage is how fashion is always referring back to the past and trying to make the old new again, then having to adjust to this whole new trend. All of this while vintage just feels okay to wear anytime just because its 'vintage'. Its seems sensibly justifiable even though you look out of place like me in these boots which I'm totally not used to. But they were just so pretty! And you know the great thing about an ultra long skirt like the one above? You can not only wear it as a dress but also a jumpsuit with the help of a rubberband which you tie around each leg- too cute! I got to see how it looked like on a model but never felt it would really look as good on me so I just stuck to its goodness as a dress.

I wanted to give cowboy kind of vibes when I wore these boots so I chose to pair it with my fav Topshop jacket and denims. The bustier is from Nastygal which gave the outfit a little more contrast thanks to the studs I love so much. I love these boots! They're so soft and smell like vintage in a good way…it was hard letting them go. In general, Granny's Day Out has been around for some time now and has been able to up keep with their awesome variety of vintage especially from the 1970s and 80s. They've pretty cool one-off statement pieces and accessories and have been able to stay true to what collecting vintage is all about. Its not only about the clothes but you just wonder whats the whole story behind a certain piece of vintage, who might have worn it and where, when and how. Thats what I love so much about vintage, you're reliving a part of history in you and you get to stand out because its something different from what the rest of the world is wearing. Check out Granny's website here to see whats in store, they have a really cute section that gives tips on everything about buying/storing vintage items so be sure to check out! Or, you can simply go down to 3 Coleman Street, #03-25 Peninsula Shopping Centre, Singapore 179804 to go through racks and racks of awesome vintage. They have a really cute section that gives tips on everything about buying/storing vintage items so be sure to check out!

Riding Pant

I definitely deserve a huge huge round of applause today because it is my first time, ever, wearing tight pants. I'd blame vanity and insecurities about body-hugging clothing especially when it comes to legs. Of course I've worn pants before, but that only happened last year when I slowly ventured into flares. Apart from jeans, I have never in my life wore tight pants and I've had this riding pant from American Apparel in my wardrobe for over half a year, tags still attached. I'll be honest and tell you that the only reason why I decided to put it on today was because I really ran out of stuff to wear and repeating outfits to school became too much of a painful thought.

They're almost like leggings but 20 times thicker and 10 times thicker than jeans. They're also a tad more decent. You'll probably need the right underwear to prevent fashion's #1 no-no of the VPL. Apart from that, they're great. Love the olive in its perfect shade and how it goes up super high at the waist. I can imagine myself wearing this on a plane or in some sort of winter wonderland layered with nude tights underneath. Its all about finding the right excuses to make things we don't need look way more than useful. Cmon, its a riding pant. Do I look like I ride horses? Paired with this crazy comfy sweater, H&M shirt, Jessica Simpson heels and Chloe Paraty handbag. Thank you Ally for the photos!

Taco Time!

Fish Tacos
Taco Time!
I went to Venice Beach heaven over the weekend when I made these fish tacos! I first had them during my visit to Venice in LA, munching on a nice warm taco in front of the sea felt too good. I knew I had to make them myself! They're surpringly easy to make, worth the effort and a bit of the mess. And the beer-battered fish is so so good, especially with the white sauce. If you want to try it out, over here. Its bloody good.

Such a mystery

I'm not sure if this has got to do with so much thats being done and seen but all I've been wanting to wear lately are the simplest ensembles I manage to dig out from my wardrobe. Its always such a satisfying feeling being able to pull out an old sweater and snuggle up in front of the telly having my own crime night at home (The Mentalist! Bones! Unforgettable! Body of Proof! Castle!) while enjoying a home cooked meal. Or just wearing nothing but jeans and a T-shirt or a dress. There might not be anything specifically simple about this look, could be the barely there rings, or black from head to toe but I guess no matter how over the top people think I look, I always find that everything I wear manages to look extremely effortless and somehow subtle at the same time. So what I'm trying to say is I feel what I wear looks really basic and takes no effort because it really is nothing but the truth! Today I picked out one of my favourite jackets in my closet, its 2 sizes too big but I love how its kind of slouches onto my body and swishes as I walk. I also just so happened to find a crochet dress a couple of weeks ago that matched perfectly when paired with these shorts when tucked it. I love the versatility of pieces like this! And the fact that I got the thrills because it was so cheap ($!5!) made it all the more even worth it.
All I can say is that I think I'm probably end up living in this look for awhile, I tend to wear outfits I really like over and over until people around me get sick of them so I just justify it by saying "too bad I like it!". I also love it that this is one look which you can play around with just from the different pieces in the outfit itself. Like the shorts with a sweater. Or the jacket with a sheer panelled skirt (one which I definitely have to show you guys soon!) and the crochet dress, just as it is. This is where I start feeling this really sick kind of love towards my clothes I start to stroke them before I sleep. Now you know why.

Straight Blow Outs

A couple of weeks ago with hair fresh out of the salon- I had no plans to actually jump in the water but was more looking forward to enjoying a bit of the sun before a relaxing oil massage. I got my Balayage highlights refurbished at Salon Vim with LO'real's Copper Golden Blonde (so refreshing!) and treated it with a LO'real's Renew C Pre Shampoo treatment and a Power Repair B- both of which revitalise and repair hair fibre and strengthens hair cuticles. You can read up more on my experience with Balayage highlights here. Like I said, its pretty amazing (nope, not kidding) And if you did notice, I got my hair blown out straight as I thought it would be nice to have a bit of change. Its something I've been almost gravitating towards every end of the month when I make a trip down to the salon. I like it very much and everyone tells me to stick with it but I think I love my waves more than anything for now…..what do you think? Also got Ivan to do a few quick snips and I now have lighter and fuller hair. Too much love for it right now!

Call 68847757 and book your appointments with Ivan now! Mention the blog and you get a 10% off! Salon Vim is located at 13 Somerset #04-07/08/09.
